A boat has become partly submerged in the Marlborough Sounds prompting an oil spill response from the harbourmaster.
The 56-foot boat, named the Padrone, sunk near Waitaria Bay jetty in Kenepuru Sound on Tuesday, carrying 2000 litres of diesel and 60 litres of engine oil
Six trained responders had been dispatched from Havelock about lunchtime with oil spill management gear aboard the harbourmaster boat Resolution.
On-scene commander Pete Hamill said they had only seen "minimal signs" of fuel on the water surface but they would continue to monitor the boat.
The owner of the boat said they planned to refloat the boat on Wednesday, a statement from the Marlborough District Council said.
At this stage, the cause of the sinking was unknown.
