Whitney Investment Collective’s (WINC) annual firework fundraiser will light up the skies above A&P showground once again on Saturday 14 November.
Lights over Marlborough is returning for another year of community fun, designed this year to raise funds for unique and creative play spaces around Whitney Street School.
What began in the1980s as a small-scale school firework display has grown into a major community event, with thousands now flocking to the showground to enjoy the display.
WINC Secretary and Communications Manager Carola (Caz) Young says a lot of hard work goes into the planning of each event. “We’re always trying to find new ways to make it even more enjoyable for everyone.”
As well as the renowned firework display, the fundraiser shines a light on local youth performers, giving Marlborough students a platform to showcase their talents to the community.
Seventeen-year-old Sophia Speedy is a new addition to the list of performers and says “she is really excited” to be part of the live music programme.
“I think it’s such a cool community event that everyone gathers for.
“Personally, I’m excited for the set list that I’m performing because I have a new EP coming out. So I’m going to show a couple of new original songs, which I’m really excited to perform.”
Being “Marlborough born and bred” Sophia says she’s keen to perform on home soil and “see what the crowd thinks” of her new songs.
Other performers include Six Strings Academy bands’ Minor Problems and Permission Slip, bands from Marlborough Boys’ College – Amoeba and Beans – and Better Late Never.
Caz says the team is proud to support local talent and give them the opportunity to perform to a large audience, all in the name of a good cause.
