A new recreation and hospitality development is planned for Blenheim, with a driving range, mini-golf, hospitality facilities and golf retail among the features proposed for the Caythorpe Family Estate.
Known as Caythorpe Green, the project will be built on land owned by the Bishell family, whose Marlborough farming operation dates back to 1880. The family expanded into horticulture and viticulture in recent decades and is now adding a tourism and recreation component to its business.
Owner Simon Bishell said the development was partly driven by the need for diversification and a perceived gap in local golfing facilities.
"We love golf and Marlborough desperately lacks a driving range and dedicated golf retail outside of the traditional golf club," he said.
The development is intended to cater to both residents and visitors, offering activities beyond traditional golf through technology-based golf experiences, mini-golf and hospitality services.

The project is being developed alongside Heller Golf, a company involved in golf facility development. Chief executive Dave Saunders said the venue would combine golf technology with a vineyard setting to appeal to a broad range of users.
Marlborough Mayor Nadine Taylor said the development will strengthen the region's tourism offering and attract visitors outside the peak summer season.
"Caythorpe Green will be a great asset for Marlborough, bringing together recreation, hospitality and family-friendly experiences in one destination," she said.
The plans come as tourism operators continue to seek attractions capable of drawing visitors throughout the year and encouraging longer stays in the region.
Planning for the development is already underway, with construction expected to begin shortly. The project is scheduled to be completed in stages, with full completion targeted for the first quarter of 2028.
